“Unnecessary risks are being taken by patients seeking the liberation treatment.” says Dr. Avneesh Gupte of the CCSVI Clinic. “It has been our contention since we started doing minimally invasive venous angioplasties nearly 6 years ago that discharging patients who have had neck vein surgery on an outpatient basis is contra-indicated. Although the venous angioplasty therapy on neck veins has been done for MS patients at CCSVI Clinic only for the last 18 months it has been performed on narrow or occluded neck veins for other reasons for many years. “Where we encounter blocked neck veins resulting in a reflux of blood to the brain, we treat it as a disease,” says Gupte. “It’s not normal pathology and we have seen improved health outcomes for patients where we have relieved the condition with minimal occurrences of re-stenosis long-term. We believe that our record of safety and success is due to our post-procedure protocol because we have had to take patients back to the OR to re-treat them in that 10-day period. Otherwise some people could have run into trouble, no question.”

Calgary MS patient Maralyn Clarke died recently after being treated for CCSVI at Synergy Health Concepts of Newport Beach, California on an outpatient basis. Synergy Health Concepts discharges patients as a rule without in-clinic provisions for follow up and aftercare. Post-procedure, Mrs. Clarke was discharged, checked into a hotel, and suffered a massive bleed in the brain only hours after the procedure. Dr. Joseph Hewett of Synergy Health recently made a cross-Canada tour promoting his clinic for safe, effective treatment of CCSVI for MS patients at public forums in major Canadian cities including Calgary.

The thing is, are Synergy Health Concepts and other clinics doing the Liberation Treatment going to be changing their aftercare methods even though they know it is unsafe to release a patient on the same day? The answer is no, even after Mrs. Clarke’s unfortunate and unnecessary death. Therefore, they are not focused on patient safety…it’s become about money only and lives are being put at risk as a result.”

Your Simple Challenge seems to contradict the 'first do no harm' principle you mention toward the start of this article.

Presumably you'd also want 'informed consent' from any patients who were started on sugar pills (I know that I wouldn't be keen on lying to a patient about what treatment they were getting).

It's beginning to seem like a rather complicated (and ethically-dodgy) challenge, at least to me.

Not least because the medication being stopped would have already been compared to inert treatments (as part of the testing/licensing procedure).

Although, it doesn't sound as if it would be nearly as difficult, as a homeopath, for you to switch to unadulterated sugar pills (and then look for any changes in response).

Then the numbskulls will raise the problem of pollution; what about all things other things in the water, why don't pollutants act as well?
(That's just to contradict themselves and "it's just water", I suppose.).
Well, I expect we do "potentise" such traces to some degree, but the focus is on the major element, the 10% or so of the main remedy, as against the ppm of anything else.

Then again, Dana, you don't have to use double-distilled water at all. Many remedies start with a dry process, grinding the basic material down in say, lactose or other sugar.
Some remedies are made in alcohol, some in glycerine. And you can use tap water, too.
But I find that 'de-ionized' water tends to be a bit dead, doesn't work at all well.
Which could be another reason for failed trials.

The common requirement seems to be to use something with OH structures, which we know form complex patterns.
( A proper scientist, in contrast to a skeptidiot, will tell you that water isn't just H2o, it consists of of many structures, with average 2 H to an O. Approximately.)

Nor do you need to use a glass test-tube. Any container that doesn't react or dissolve would be fine.
(I often wonder how you can make a decent potency of silicea in a silica-glass vial. I don't think you can.)

And finally, you don't really need to use the centessimal scale, that's just an attempt at standardisation. I use many different ratios in remedies I prepare.
Korsakoff used an approximate 1:1000, and spring water, or anything to hand in the field, even wine.

(A little last note to the skeptidiots: one drop of dilute alcohol is NOT going to get me drunk and happy, even if it might overwhelm your puny brains.)

You can vigorously shake your dilution as much as you like, but you'll still not be making a homeopathic remedy.
That's what the pseudo-scientists' trials do, they test only a pastiche of homeopathy, then find their pastiche doesn't work.

Sometimes they even re-use vials or stirrers, and of course they get the result the trial was designed to give - no effect!

Homeo-phobic rule-morons will often point out that a 30c would have less than a molecule of 'medicine' in a body of water the size of the solar system.
Well, yes, if that's what you wanted to do, misinterpret the method, not be in the slightest bit scientific about the protocol, test some entirely different hypothesis, that's what you'd get.
In fact, much of the disproof literature refers to "extreme dilutions", "ultra-dilutions", because they just don't, won't get it - a dumb refusal or inability to comprehend.

Now, supposing (as we postulate) that the succussion has an amplifying effect in some way, you'd need a heck of a powerful jolt to succuss a body of water that size!
Do the math!
And whatever we do, it doesn't depend on concentration, but on some kind of amplification (mechanism as yet not clearly understood), "potentisation".
(Even Hahnemann made a joke about this, that he could make a remedy with Lake Geneva, if only he could succuss it!)

Thank you Dane for this simple yet illuminating description of the reasons why homeopathy works and is so popular today.
